Research in Maloof’s Earth history group relies on original field observations paired with quantitative techniques at various scales, from photogrammetric and differential GPS surveys at the map and outcrop scale, to serial grinding and imaging for 3D reconstruction at the specimen scale. The group’s current focus involves combining modern analog studies with the stratigraphic record of ancient sedimentary and volcanic rocks to study the coevolution of life and climate over the past billion years.
